Bois Péladeau’s sawmills are strategically located to offer customers the best
products from each region. The Saint-Antoine and Tourville, Québec, sawmills
are surrounded by the Maple and Birch forests of Southern Québec and Northern
New England, which are world famous for producing not only beautiful foliage,
but also lumber of exceptional color and quality. Likewise, most of Péladeau’s
Cherry and much of its Red Oak comes out of the company’s sawmill in Tupper
Lake, New York, which is situated in an area with outstanding Black Cherry and
Red Oak forests. Consequently, Péladeau’s Hard Maple, Soft Maple and Birch are
very white, it’s Cherry is very red, and its Red Oak is light, bright and
virtually mineral free. Péladeau also produces significant volumes of
premium-quality White Ash, Soft Maple, Basswood and Aspen. Most species are
available in 4/4 through 8/4 sizes, with 10/4, 12/4 and 16/4 also available in
certain species.
Quality control is very important at each of Péladeau’s three modern, double-cut
band sawmills. Lumber is sawn to exacting thickness tolerances and then well
cared for as soon as it comes off the saw. All lumber is closely-edged to
eliminate bark, minimize wane and maximize yield for the customer.
Lumber from all three sawmills is shipped to the company’s concentration yard in
Laval, Québec, for drying and grading. This suburban Montreal site is also home
to Péladeau’s corporate headquarters and sales office. Visitors to the Laval
facility often comment about its remarkable cleanliness, in which all employees
take pride. Good housekeeping is more than just a cosmetic activity at
Péladeau; it is a visible symbol of the company’s total commitment to quality.

By channeling all lumber through one location, Péladeau enhances it’s
consistency of grade, color and overall quality. With Péladeau, there are no
surprises from one load to the next. Whereas many companies merely process
lumber, Péladeau nurtures it. All lumber is stacked on Breeze Dried™ sticks
placed one foot apart to ensure flatness. Péladeau’s onsite kiln drying
capacity consists of nine cells totaling 500,000 board feet. Lumber is treated
with utmost care throughout the drying, equalizing and conditioning processes.
Quality takes priority over speed.
Lumber is re-graded after kiln drying by highly experienced graders that are
regularly spot checked for accuracy in accordance with the National Hardwood
Lumber Association’s (NHLA) certification program, of which Péladeau is a
member. The length and width of every board is electronically scanned at the
grading station so that tallies can be generated for customers detailing
exactly what is in each pack of lumber. Péladeau is able to precision sort
lumber to 1/16” width tolerances for customers that require it.
Every part of Péladeau’s operation is designed to maximize its customers’
satisfaction and success by providing superbly-manufactured, high-yielding
lumber. In fact, buyers who closely monitor their yields are among Péladeau’s
most loyal customers because they know firsthand the value they get for their
money.
